In this Tidepool mini episode, host Eugenie Jacobsen dives into two innovative conferences set to make waves in St. John's, Newfoundland, this spring. 

Eugenie chats with Dr. Paul Winger, the Director of the Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Resources (CSAR), who shares all the details about the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) / UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Fishing Technology and Fish Behavior Conference. The conference will bring together global leaders in sustainable fishing technology and provides opportunities for knowledge sharing in academic and government researchers and local/regional industry, including ocean instrumentation, gear manufacturing, and supply services 

Next, Eugenie is joined by Chris Arns, Council of Marine Professionals Project Manager, and Captain Charlene Munden of Algoma Central Corporation, to talk about the Mari-Tech Conference and Exhibition in May. Chris also highlights COMPASS' Elevate, Empower, Employ project, a marine and ocean career exploration program geared towards getting women aged 18-24 involved in the marine industry. Captain Charlene Munden shares her expierences as a women in the marine industry and gives important advice for students and women entering the workforce.
